About

Andréa Hughes is a self-taught artist and the Director of the 14th Street Artist Community/Zuka Art Guild. A native of the Fairground Park area, Andréa remains deeply rooted in the Old North St. Louis community. As an alum of the Community Arts Training (CAT) program through the Regional Arts Commission, she focuses her practice on social impact, facilitating visual arts classes for both seniors and youth. Her work is woven into the city’s landscape—from painting murals for the "Doors of Old North" to her selection as a muralist for the Delmar Street Mural Project. Andréa’s dedication to her craft and community earned her the 2022 Community Impact Artist award from the St. Louis Visionary Awards. Her recent contributions include serving as a finalist for the Gateway Greening Banner Project and the Community Betterment Project in Old North.

Artist Statement

My work is a dialogue between the history of St. Louis and the vibrant future of its residents. As a self-taught artist, I view creativity as a tool for community healing and transformation. Whether I am painting murals on the doors of Old North or facilitating workshops for seniors and youth, my goal is to make art accessible and visible. By blending visual storytelling with social impact, I strive to honor our local heritage and inspire the next generation of creative voices in the Fairground and Old North communities.
